The Shema is a central prayer in Judaism, and one that we say in all of our High Holiday services. But it’s actually not as simple as it sounds. Many Hebrew words have multiple meanings. For example, Israel is not just a people, the word “Israel” means “one who wrestles with God” ... Adonai is just one of many names for God... and well, God itself means something different to all of us. So, what is the Shema to you?
